5 Great Water Activities for Your Next Vacation
It’s no secret that Michael and I sometimes disagree on what activities we want to do while traveling. when we hit the lake or go to the ocean, we may go our separate ways for a few hours to do our own water activities. While you might automatically think of lounging on the beach while on vacation, you might also want to check out some exciting activities. The ideas below are ones for those who enjoy the water and want to have some fun in the sun while on their next getaway. Hopefully, this will help narrow down your options!
1. Snorkeling
Perhaps it’s the Caribbean, or maybe it’s Costa Rica instead. There are many great places for snorkeling that offer beauty and exhilaration, as well as being a great opportunity for vacation exercise. Honestly, it can be a serious workout and my lungs are feeling it just thinking about it!
Explore clear blue waters, swim around marine life, and check out coral reefs that have bold colors. Snorkeling can be a surprisingly peaceful activity and one of our favorite things to do when visiting anywhere tropical.
2. Paddleboarding
This trend continues to grow. Though Paddleboarding is a water sport that requires pretty good balance, it’s true that it is just as relaxing as it is fun. People often liken the experience to meditation. When on the water, you can connect to your thoughts and enjoy some quiet moments. This is a perfect activity while spending time out on the lake. We are slowly picking up the trend!
It is also easy to learn. You’ll find you get a good workout too that builds your endurance and balance. It’s an awesome alternative to the gym during the summer months.
3. Go Fishing
If you have ever thought about going out on the sea with a fishing charter, now you can do so easily. A wide variety of packages are available with these fishing charter boats, where you can join an experienced Skipper and crew for an awesome outing on the Gold Coast that ranges from a half-day to a full day.
Learn the ideal techniques for catching a wide variety of fish species. Go alone, with the family, or with a group (big or small). I took a fishing trip for my brother’s bachelor party a few years back, and it is definitely an experience I will never forget!
4. Windsurfing
If you love to sail, or are an aspiring fan of surfing and want to try something new, then windsurfing is one of the best things you can try while traveling! This sport is incredible where the winds are strong and reliable. In Puerto Vallarta, we looked out to the waves with envy as windsurfers rode the surf.
A few other great windsurfing destinations are Tarifa, Spain, and Rhodes, Greece. While you can windsurf on lakes, oceans, or rivers, those locations are among the best. We hope to make it to one or the other as soon as we possibly can!
5. Jet Skiing
Get off the sandy shores in an adrenaline-pounding way with a jet ski adventure. Rent your own personal watercraft at your destination and explore the coves and bays. It’s honestly one of the best ways to explore and get around whether you’re at a lake, island, or coastal destination.
A trustworthy operator will give you a life jacket and provide instructions before letting you rent one for your own safety. Inquire about riding double, if that interests you too! Sharing a jet ski can make an amazing date!
Final Words on Water, Vacation Time, and You
Getting out on the water is an exciting way to spend a vacation, but make sure you book ahead for the activities you want to try at a first-time destination, rather than waiting until you get there! That way, you won’t risk showing up to find out everything is already booked. It’s happened to us before, and we do not recommend that kind of disappointment!
Also, communicate what you would like to do while on the holiday with those who you’re traveling with so that you are all on the same page. Don’t be like Michael and I dueling it out on the beach for our preferred activity! If they love to fish then renting a charter boat sounds great, and jet skis are terrific for an adrenaline junkie. Compromise is key.
When the whole group has fun, then you are sure to create memories that you will remember for the rest of your lives. Have a terrific time and go get wet!
So you’re looking to visit Helsinki, and possibly Finland for the very first time. Where do we start!? For a country with only 5.5 million people, Finland surely packs in a ton of culture. Helsinki is located at the edge of the Baltic Sea, with its vast archipelago stretching nearly to the shores of Sweden. Whether you’re visiting during the warm and humid summer where it stays light until the wee hours of the morning, of you’re heading there to see the snow and Northern Lights, Helsinki has something to offer for everyone.
