Copenhagen Downtown Hostel Review | Backpacking Europe
Why Stay at Copenhagen Downtown Hostel?
One of the most difficult things to figure out when planning a big trip is deciding where to stay. This was especially true for my friends and I when we started searching for our accommodations on our European backpacking trip.
Looking into Copenhagen, we were overwhelmed with the number of options. Then, like an answer from the travel-gods, we took our search to HostelWorld and found this glorious gem.
Copenhagen Downtown Hostel is one of a kind, original hostel goodness. The upbeat and positive environment is inundated with interesting and energetic like-minded travelers. Cleanliness & sanitation have always been concerns to my friends and I when staying at hostels, but we were pleasantly surprised to find that not only does Copenhagen Downtown Hostel maintain it's grungy & edgy charm, but the rooms were incredibly clean!
Prime Location
I cannot stress enough how important location is when booking your accommodations for your backpacking trip. Carrying heavy bags over cobblestone roads for miles may be to some an enjoyable experience, however the majority of the general public appreciates not destroying their legs within the first hour of arriving to their destination.
Incredibly Friendly Atmosphere
If you're like me and want to make a friend or two on your journey, finding a hostel that fosters a friendly atmosphere and encourages travelers to meet one another is of upmost importance! This is why Copenhagen Downtown Hostel is definitely in my list of favorites!
Copenhagen Downtown Hostel features in it's a lobby an expansive room full of long tables, bean-bag sacks, and lounge furniture providing plenty of space to take a seat and relax after a long day's travel. You'll find the room buzzing with fellow travelers gathered around tables with a couple of beers, snacking while playing cards, or simply taking advantage of the free wifi and coffee.
You cannot beat a hostel that makes it easy to make new friends. One of my favorite things about Copenhagen Downtown Hostel is their optional group-meal available every evening for an extremely cheap and affordable price compared to Copenhagen's usual steep meal prices!
Gathering around a family-style table and sharing a meal (and a few drinks!) together is the perfect way to start off your adventure in this incredible city. Plus, it gives you the chance to get a group of travelers together for going out later!
My group immediately clicked with those we sat with on our first meal there. We became instant friends and basically spent our entire trip hanging with them, and afterwards even got invited to visit them in Cologne. So again, a hostel that makes it easy to meet new friends is one of the most important things in the world!!!
Free Walking Tours!
This blog wouldn't be complete without mentioning that one of our favorite experiences while visiting Copenhagen was brought to us by the very hostel we chose to stay in! Copenhagen's Free Walking Tours are available to anyone who happens to come to the City Hall any day at 11AM, but we first learned about this fascinating and FREE tour through their many recommendations at Copenhagen Downtown Hostel. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical showing up for this free tour, but I had never been so pleasantly surprised in my life. It was one of the funniest, and most educational tours I have ever experienced. Read more about Copenhagen's Free Walking Tours on my previous Blog: What to See in Copenhagen!
Beds from $34 a Night!
Expenses can add up extremely quickly staying in Copenhagen. The prices are quite a bit higher compared to American counterparts and other areas in Europe, but the experience of seeing one of Scandinavia's most historic and lively cities is indescribable. With very cheap pricing in comparison to other accommodation options, and offering a cheap meal alternative to it's guests, Copenhagen Downtown Hostel will help even the most frugal college student a great place to sleep.
